January 8, 2026

Dear League members and friends,

2026 is starting out with a busy League calendar. Please read on for some important updates.

"Communicate to De-escalate" Workshop Registration is Open

This interactive workshop led by nationally recognized coaches builds on the National Conflict Resolution Center's (NCRC's) strategies to process our thinking and manage how it is impacting our interactions.

We'll practice proven techniques for active listening and communicating in ways that overcome conflicts. We'll also see how to identify the unspoken needs driving the current divisiveness and intense emotions in our communities, schools and workplaces. The exercises include verbal and nonverbal de-escalation strategies.

This will be a morning well spent. Be sure to register soon as space is limited.

Sign Up for Legislative Interviews

Each year, the League of Women Voters of California (LWVC) asks local League members to interview their state legislators so legislators can share their priorities with us and we can learn about upcoming state legislation that may affect our communities.

We report what we learn back to LWVC so they gain insight into legislators and the interests of local Leagues—information that supports statewide advocacy and education planning.

These interviews are a great way to meet our state legislators and their staff in person. They also reinforce that, while the League never supports or opposes candidates or parties, we are a political organization that takes positions on issues after study and consensus.

Training is provided, and interviews are conducted as a team. It’s a fun and rewarding way to engage directly with our state representatives.

Join our committee to learn more. We begin in January, so if you’re interested, please contact Cathy Greene at vpadvocacy@lwvncsd.org or 619‑980‑6656.
